Martin Luther King, Jr. Remembered

“The church must be reminded that it is not the master or the servant of the state, but rather the conscience of the state. It must be the guide and the critic of the state, and never its tool. If the church does not recapture its prophetic zeal, it will become an irrelevant social club without moral or spiritual authority.”

LOL. Nice try but no cigar.

Considering the historical record, the odds Dr. King had closet conservative Republican leanings are about as great as me joining the John Birch Society.

At his final speech as President of the The Southern Christian Leadership Conference, on August 16, 1967, King said:

..."and one day we must ask the question, Why are there forty million poor people in America? And when you begin to ask that question, you are raising questions about the economic system, about a broader distribution of wealth. When you ask that question, you begin to question the capitalistic economy. And I'm simply saying that more and more, we've got to begin to ask questions about the whole society..."

Don't know about you, but that doesn't sound like any Republican I remember.
