In the eye of the beholder

Julia Gelef's interesting take of the episode currently known as "elevatorgate."

"...having an elephant in the room makes it awfully difficult to have a good conversation; and to be frank, they’re no picnic to clean up after, either."

Atheists, although trending perhaps to be slightly more inquisitive, in general are representative of society as a whole. Events between the sexes will occur, and likely will somewhat mirror cultural norms.

Time is required for growth. Therefore behavior  such as occurred in Dublin is to be expected, should eventually self-correct (survival of the fittest), and those of us in the skeptical community should be nerdy enough to learn from and find a way beyond such fallout as is discussed in this thesis. This is evolution. It is the natural evolutionary order of things.

Interesting - in that the situation seems to reinforce the idea that "smart" folks tend to talk issues to death. Seems to me to be a case of poor judgement/bad manners on the part of the gentleman hitting on the woman . . .

Precisely the point... and if the gent is smart he'll learn from this flawed attempt at flirting. Thus my conclusion that evolution takes time and experience. The strong (smart) will survive while the dull will keep going back to the same dry well and be slowly weeded out.

Perhaps the rest of the community (Dawkins included) will also learn that we have a long way to go and that mistakes will be made along the way.

Poor judgement, and pretty stupid behavior... Can't help but wonder if alcohol was involved.

ETOH is possible, perhaps even likely considering the group was still in the restaurant at 04:00. Poor judgement is a definite, and lots of that to go around.

The point being made is that we learn from our mistakes. This episode offers plenty of mistakes from which we can learn.
