Well I've been out walking
I don't do that much talking these days
These days—
These days I seem to think a lot
About the things that I forgot to do
For you
And all the times I had the chance to
And I had a lover
It's so hard to risk another these days
These days—
Now if I seem to be afraid
To live the life I have made in song
Well it's just that I've been losing for so long
I'll keep on moving
Things are bound to be improving these days
One of these days—
These days I sit on corner stones
And count the time in quarter tones to ten, my friend
So please don't confront me with my failures
I have not forgotten them
- - Jackson Browne
Another version by Nico. Browne is much better.
Then there is Gregg Allman's version. Possibly the best.

It's a great song. It's even more amazing that Browne was so young when he wrote it...but then, I used to feel so much older. I was so young then!
Now my old has gone away,
But my tired is here to stay
I'm afraid.
First heard the Gregg Allman version. I still have a preference for the composition.

Allman does a more soulful job, I agree. Still, the youth of Browne at the time his mind conceived those lyrics is pretty interesting.
Seems something a much more mature individual would write, but maybe Browne had experiences that caused him to mature earlier than most.
Here's a link to "Doctor my Eyes/These Days". There was one trip with a great friend during which I remember listening to Jackson Browne snaking from the speakers for many hours...Good times.
Great link. In the associated links I found one with These Days alone, then the Allman version and one by Nico. Don't know her, and she doesn't do the tune very much justice. These have all been added to the original post.
